Mission Statement

Students for Smiles is a project by ASU students to bring joy to the lives of kids that live in the long term care facility run by Hacienda HealthCare. Hacienda is Arizona's first and still only long term care home and medical facility for chronically ill and disabled infants, children and young adults. They also founded Arizona's first pediatric skilled nursing facility.

Date: Jan 27 2007 (9am - 5pm)

Thanks to all that made the day a success!

Hacienda only has the resources to give kids "class" for between an hour or two, five days a week. Class for these kids are often reading books, doing art projects or looking at nature outside. Basically this is the time they get the attention of an adult to play with them each day not including their constant medical care. This often adds up to less then 8 hours per week of attention the kids receive. The goal of this project is to give each child as much attention as they want for an entire day. Many of these kids will spend their entire life in this or similar facilities. The impact of this project on the residents of Hacienda will be lasting.

It's not just for the kids. All the volunteers will experience a day they will never forget. The day will be magical and fun and these wonderful children will touch all of the volunteer's hearts and inspire them in their own lives. Also, anyone who volunteers if they so choose will get their name listed on this site to be remembered for years to come. Here is a list of the people who have already contributed time to this project. If spending time with the kids is not your thing, there will be other volunteer opportunities at the same time. The facility needs help with a number of projects around the facility including landscaping, pulling weeds, pircking up trash and more.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to look at our project. There is alot of stuff going on with this project so check back here for updates.
